The Brinemarch Run

Region: SUNRISE PLAINS (Tiles: M, N, S, T, A*)

SUNRISE PLAINS (Tiles: M, N, S, T, A*) The Churn lives here. Pink fungal plains, waterlogged despite the dry climate, unstable as fever dreams. This is where Memory Mother feeds—her fungal network so dense it drains magic from the air itself. Spells fail 50% of the time. Failed magic becomes mushrooms. The fungus doesn't care what you meant to do. Rivers appear and vanish weekly. Roads are eaten overnight. Imperial infrastructure dies here, reclaimed by pink growth before the survey team returns. Plains Folk adapted—they build stilt houses on wooden posts driven through fungal mat to bedrock, living elevated above the churning ground. The climate is dry (rain shadow from mountains), but the ground stays wet. Rivers from the west bring water that can't drain through the fungal mat. The result: exposed terrain under clear skies. Sun-crows gather in enormous numbers. The bird counter climbs without weather relief. This is the most dangerous region for crow attacks. Yet Plains Folk thrive. They know the offerings. They know when the fungus pulses with mana absorption and when it rests. They know which mushrooms are memory storage and which are toxic waste. Colonial expeditions avoid the Churn. Those that don't, disappear into pink and never find their way out. What you need: Stilt house. Anti-magic tactics. Indigenous guide who knows the mushroom calendar.
